A Silvio lo empiezo a escuchar en 1991, cuando fuera del colegio estoy ya estudiando en San Marcos. Silvio no tendrá la voz máxima, pero sus letras y la habilidad que tiene para tocar la guitarra hacen de él uno de mis favoritos indiscutiblemente. Como buen cubano, expone los diferentes ritmos que la isla ha impulsado y añade a ello letras imperecederas. En lo personal, lo prefiero cuando toca temas objetivos y deja hadas y a los ángeles de lado. Por ello creo que prefiero al Silvio joven.
Ahora miembro del parlamento de su país, Silvio forma parte de la burocracia que juega un papel dual en la Isla Grande: por un lado contiene el avance del capitalismo con su anarquía y explotación, por otro lado no deja que el pueblo, a quien se debe, llegue al poder. El resultado es entonces una deformación del socialismo. Pero como músico, Silvio sigue siendo un privilegiado.
I started to listen to Silvio in 1991, when I was already studying at San Marcos University, I have not stopped since then. Silvio is perhaps not the best singer, but his lyrics and his ability to play the guitar make him definitely one of my favorites. As proud cuban, he incorporates the diversity of rhythms and flavors you can find in the island and on top of that he adds pleasant everlasting lyrics. For me, he is at his best when he performs objectively and forget about fairies and angels for a bit. That is why I prefer the young Silvio
Now an acting member of the Parliament in his country, Silvio is part of the bureaucracy that plays a dual role in Cuba: on one side it stops the restoration of capitalism, its anarchy and exploitation; on the other hand it prevents the people from taking real power. The result is a deformation of socialism. But as a musician, Silvio is still part of the elite.
